TA _ THE USE OF GROUP WORK TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN READING SHORT STORY
Abstract
This journal aimed to describe students’ improvement on reading short story through the use of group work technique. There were 24 students of grade eight of SMP Kristen 1 SoE as the participants. The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the research design and collect the data by using test, in the form of pre-test, post-test and students’ observation checklist. This study consisted of two cycle. In cycle one, consisted of three meetings and cycle two, consisted of two meetings. Students has improvement, the students being active in the process of teaching and learning. The result of this study showed that students’ result of pre-test was 20%, students’ result of post-test 1 was 66,12% meanwhile, students’ result in post-test 2 was 71%. Based on the result gathered, the researcher concluded that students’ reading short story improved significantly after the application of group work in teaching and learning process. The result of this study indicated that Group work technique could improve students’ reading short story.
