TA _ STUDENTS’ STRATEGIES TO OVERCOME THEIR WRITING PROBLEMS IN IMPROVING BASIC WRITING SKILL
Abstract
This study aimed to find out students’ problems in writing and their strategies used to overcome the problems in improving basic writing skill. The participants were 15 studentsof Basic writing class, English education Program. This is a qualitative research so the instruments used in this research were students’ drafts and interview. Based on students’ draft, researcher found students problems in writing and based on interview the researcher knew students’ strategies that they use to overcome the problems in improving basic writing skill. The result of this study showed that, students’ problems in writing consist of four elements problems such as: Grammar problems, vocabulary, organization and content. Besides that, students’ strategies that they use to overcome the four elements problems in writing such as: find the form of tenses, read English text, practice to write in English, listen to English songs, watching English movie, memorize vocabulary, brainstorming, re-read the text and peer-editing. Therefore, after students implemented those strategies, their writing were improved. The improvement such as: Students can structure the sentences well based on grammatical pattern correctly, they can write in any paragraphs because they have a lot ofvocabularies, they can organize their ideas into a good paragraph, they can explore their ideas well to be a good content of writing, their lecturer understands with their writing and
they get good score from their lecturer.
