TA _ THE USE OF SHORT STORY TO DEVELOP STUDENTS' READING COMPREHENSION IN XLGRADE OF SCIENCE STUDENTS
Abstract
This journal aimed to describe students’ improvement on reading comprehension through the application of short story. There were 30 students of SMP Kristen 1 Amanuban Barat. The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the
research design and collects the data by using test, in the form of pre-test, post-test and students’ observation checklist. The result of this study indicated that Short Story could develop students' reading comprehension. This study consisted of two cycles. In cycle one, consisted of three meetings and cycle two, consisted of two meetings. Students improvement covered, the students being active in the process of teaching and learning. The result of this study showed that students' result of pre-test was 30% students' result of post- test I was 64% meanwhile, students' result in post-test 2 was 19 80%. Based on the result gathered, the researcher concluded that students' reading comprehension improve significantly after the application of short story in teaching and learning process.
