TA _ IMPROVING STUDENTS’ ENGLISH VOCABULARY USING RIDDLE GAME IN SMP NEGERI LIMAN
Abstract
This research focus is in student’s vocabulary improvement. Some of vocabulary problems in English course, refers to words meaning, how to differentiate the words usage based on the context, how to combine the words in sentence, and describing the grammar of words. This research aims to evaluate the use of riddle game in improving students’ vocabulary. The Participants of the study was conducted in SMP Negeri Liman, of class VIII Grade. There will be 25 participants in the class. In order to collect the data, the researcher was implement four steps in classroom action research (CAR) which are planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The data collection process is carried out through the result of the pre-test, post-test and observation checklist. Then, the researcher was analyzed the result of the pre-test, post-test and observation checklist. Based on the first cycle and after analyzing the data, the results showed a 12.86% improvement in the mean score of students’ vocabulary. While this indicates some development, the improvement was not sufficient to meet the minimum required score. after doing the cycle two of this research there were 84% students who successful passed the KKM, so
that this research had achieved the success criteria in classroom action research which is when 75% of the total students in the class success, means that, using the riddle game can improve students’ vocabulary with descriptive text material. The present of riddle game in this action research showed that vocabulary is not something difficult to learn, as long as it is presented in fun and educative ways.
