TA _ Students’ Perception on the Media Used by Teacher in Teaching English at SMP Negeri Oekamusa
Abstract
This research aims to explore 7th-grade students’ perceptions about teaching media used in English lesson at SMP Negeri Oekamusa. This study used a descriptive qualitative method and the data was collected from both the English teacher and students using classroom observation and interview. In this case, classroom observation was done to see how the teacher applied media during English lessons and how both the teacher and students interacted with the media, while the interview was conducted with the students to understand their perceptions of the use of media in learning English. The findings showed that students generally had a positive attitude towards these media and it was found that media was helpful for students in understanding the material. Flashcards were particularly valued for quick vocabulary learning, PowerPoint slides for detailed explanations, and posters for reinforcing knowledge. However, students faced some challenges, including slides changing too quickly, small text, and technical issues. Despite these problems, students admitted that media tools significantly improve their learning experience by providing clear examples and maintaining their interest. Thus, using
different learning media keep them motivated to learn English.
