TA _ ENGLISH LECTURERS’ PERCEPTION ON UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC DISHONESTY
Abstract
This study aimed to know the perspectives of English teachers at Institut Pendidikan SoE regarding academic dishonesty and examined how they promote honest work habits among students. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative method in which the research involved interviews with four English lecturers to gain in-depth insights into their experiences with students’ academic dishonesty. The findings showed that academic dishonesty is a significant issue that gives bad impact on students’ learning achievement and creates a negative classroom environment. Moreover, students cheat for different reasons, like finding their work too hard, feeling stressed, or using technology in the wrong way. Even though teachers try to stop cheating with tools and strategies, the problem still exists, showing that more needs to be done.
Thus, this study suggests that teachers should continue to use detection tools, design assignments that foster independent thinking, and closely monitor group work to improve the learning environment and reduce instances of cheating.
